Psychoeducational Assessments are conducted in person with a Registered Psychologist trained in standardized testing and interpretation.
The assessment combines interviews, developmental and educational history, and formal testing to understand how your child thinks and learns. Together, this information identifies patterns of intellectual and academic strengths, clarifies areas of difficulty, and helps explain why some aspects of learning may come more easily than others.
Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed written report with individualized recommendations for educational planning, home, and school.

A child can have strong intellectual abilities and still struggle at school. Difficulties with reading, writing, math, attention, executive functioning, processing speed, memory, or anxiety can make it harder for a student to demonstrate what they know.
A Psychoeducational Assessment looks at the pattern between a child's strengths and challenges to understand why they may be struggling and what supports can help.

Persistent difficulty with reading can sometimes be a sign of a learning disorder in reading, often referred to as dyslexia. A child may struggle with skills such as sounding out words, reading accurately or fluently, spelling, or understanding what they read, even when they are bright, motivated, and receiving support.
A Psychoeducational Assessment can help identify why reading is difficult and provide targeted recommendations to support learning at school and at home.

An ADHD Assessment focuses specifically on attention, executive functioning, and whether an individual meets criteria for ADHD. A Psychoeducational Assessment looks more broadly at cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, executive functioning, and other factors that may be affecting learning or school performance.

Most Psychoeducational Assessments are completed within 2–4 weeks from the intake meeting to the feedback session and final report. This includes approximately two parent meetings and six hours of in-person testing, scheduled across multiple appointments.

No. A referral is not required to book a Psychoeducational Assessment at Blue Spruce Psychology. Families can contact the practice directly to get started.

Many extended health benefit plans provide full or partial coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychologist. Coverage varies by plan, so I recommend checking with your insurance provider before booking.
