WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?

Blue Spruce Can Help

Whether you’re seeking answers for the first time, need assessment documentation for school, or already have a diagnosis and need support with paperwork, start with the path that fits where you are.

I Want to Better Understand Myself

You’ve been wondering about ADHD, learning, focus, organization, or why certain things seem harder than they should. An assessment can help you understand what’s getting in the way and what may help.

I Need an Assessment for School

You need a new or updated assessment to support accommodations, funding applications, or other post-secondary requirements.

I Already Have Documentation

You already have a diagnosis or previous assessment but need help with forms, letters, applications, or determining what documentation your school or program requires.

Not sure which applies to you? That’s okay. We can start with a conversation about what you need.

When Things Feel
Harder Than They Should

You may have done well in school but always needed more time, more effort, or more last-minute pressure to get things done.

Or maybe difficulties with attention, organization, procrastination, or follow-through have become more noticeable as life has become more independent.

You might be wondering why you...

  • Have trouble starting tasks, even when they’re important

  • Procrastinate until the pressure becomes impossible to ignore

  • Lose track of deadlines, appointments, or everyday responsibilities

  • Struggle to stay focused during lectures, reading, studying, or conversations

  • Spend much longer on schoolwork than it seems like it should take

  • Feel overwhelmed trying to organize competing priorities

  • Can focus intensely on some things but struggle to engage with others

  • Have always managed to get by, but find that keeping everything together is getting harder

If this sounds familiar, an assessment can help make sense of the patterns you’ve been noticing and identify what may be contributing to them.

When You Need Documentation for School

Colleges, universities, professional programs, and testing organizations may require documentation before providing accommodations or other supports. Sometimes an existing assessment is enough. Other times, updated or additional assessment may be needed.

Blue Spruce Psychology can help determine what is being requested, whether your existing documentation is sufficient, and whether any additional assessment is needed.

A NEW OR UPDATED ASSESSMENT CAN HELP WITH:

  • Academic accommodations, such as extra time or a reduced-distraction testing environment

  • Clarifying and documenting ADHD or a learning disability

  • Applications for disability-related grants or funding

  • Updating an assessment completed during childhood or adolescence

  • Entrance, licensing, or standardized testing/exam accommodation requests

Sometimes, You Just Need Help With the Paperwork

If you already have a diagnosis or previous assessment, a full reassessment may not be necessary. Post-secondary programs, testing organizations, and funding applications can have different documentation requirements, and figuring out exactly what you need can be confusing.

Blue Spruce Psychology can review your existing documentation, compare it with the requirements you've been given, and determine whether anything additional is needed.

Documentation support may include:

  • Reviewing previous assessment reports or diagnostic documentation

  • Completing accommodation or accessibility forms

  • Providing supporting letters, when appropriate

  • Supporting applications for disability-related grants or funding

  • Reviewing documentation requirements for standardized, entrance, licensing, or professional examinations

  • Helping determine whether updated testing is actually necessary

An Assessment Built Around Your Questions

There is no “one-size-fits-all” assessment for an adult.

The assessment process is tailored to the questions you’re trying to answer, your history, and any specific documentation requirements you may have.

This may involve an ADHD Assessment, a Psychoeducational Assessment, or assessment of giftedness and cognitive strengths.

Depending on your needs, assessment can explore:

Because adult assessment and post-secondary documentation needs vary, the total cost depends on the scope of service required. Services are billed at $240/hour. You’ll know what is recommended, and the expected cost, before deciding how to proceed.

ALBERTA STUDENT AID & EXTENDED HEALTH CARE BENEFITS

Funding Your Assessment

Post-secondary students with a permanent or persistent/prolonged disability may be eligible to have some or all of the cost of a disability assessment reimbursed through Alberta Student Aid.

Depending on eligibility, funding may cover up to $3,000 through the Alberta provincial grant. Students must pay for the assessment upfront, and specific timelines and documentation requirements apply.

Eligibility and reimbursement decisions are made by Alberta Student Aid. Students are encouraged to review the current requirements or speak with their institution’s accessibility office before booking an assessment.

Some extended health plans provide coverage for psychological assessments, but coverage varies considerably.

Before booking, you are encouraged to ask your insurer:

  • Whether the plan specifically covers psychological assessment

  • Whether testing, scoring and report-writing hours are eligible

  • Whether a referral or preauthorization is required

  • What annual or per-person maximum applies

Coverage for “psychological services” does not necessarily mean that the full cost of an assessment will be reimbursed. Adults are responsible for confirming their individual benefits directly with their insurer.

Direct billing is available to Canada Life, Desjardins, Industrial Alliance, Sun Life, and more. Reach out for the full list.

WHEN YOUR CHILD’S EXPERIENCE FEELS FAMILIAR

Sometimes the Questions Begin With Someone Else

Some adults begin wondering about ADHD after recognizing familiar patterns in their child. Difficulties with attention, task initiation, organization, mental clutter, or follow-through may have been present for years but explained as stress, fatigue, personality, or simply having too much going on.

An adult ADHD assessment can help determine whether ADHD is part of the picture, distinguish it from other possibilities, and identify strategies and supports that fit your everyday life.
