WHAT CALGARY PARENTS SHOULD KNOW
Fall Literacy and Numeracy Screeners Are Beginning
From September 14th to October 2nd, 2026, Alberta students in Grades 1–5 will complete reading and math screeners. Learn what the results mean and when to look more closely.
Every Assessment Begins With a Question
Sometimes it's a teacher's observation, a growing concern at home, or it's simply the feeling that something isn't quite adding up. Whatever has brought you here, your questions matter.
Often, the details that seem small are the ones worth paying attention to. The child who can focus for hours on something they love but needs repeated reminders for everyday routines. The teenager earning good grades while a parent quietly keeps track of deadlines behind the scenes. The student who understands the hardest question on the test but loses marks on three easy ones.
An assessment helps to uncover:
✓ How your child learns best
✓ Their unique strengths and abilities
✓ What may be contributing to challenges
✓ Strategies that fit their individual profile
✓ Tools for home, school, and future planning
Seeing the whole picture helps us know what will actually help.

FROM FIRST CONVERSATION TO FINAL REPORT
What to Expect From Your Assessment
-
Your assessment begins with a conversation about your concerns, developmental history, and the questions you would like the assessment to answer.
-
Testing is completed over one or more individualized sessions using standardized measures selected for the questions we're trying to answer.
The testing is standardized. The human interaction isn't.
Some kids need more conversation; others want to get straight to work. Some need encouragement, movement, or time to settle in. Others want to know exactly what we're doing and why.
I adjust my pace, energy, explanations, and breaks to the person sitting across from me—so they have the best opportunity to show me what they can actually do.
-
At the feedback meeting, I’ll walk you through the results, answer your questions, and help create a clear plan for what comes next.
-
You’ll receive a detailed report that explains strengths, challenges, a diagnosis if applicable, and practical recommendations for home, school, and future planning.
The assessment process is designed to be thorough, collaborative, and manageable from beginning to end.
From our first conversation to the final feedback meeting, I'll guide you through each step so you know what to expect and why it matters.

Every child has a unique mix of strengths, interests, and potential. An assessment helps tell the story behind how they learn and what they need.
Many families come to me after months, or even years, of wondering why things feel harder than they should. They often have questions about attention, learning, or academic progress, or whether their child's strengths are being fully recognized.
My role is to help make sense of what they're seeing.
I combine evidence-based assessment with curiosity, compassion, and careful attention to the child in front of me, so that families leave with meaningful answers, practical recommendations, and a clear sense of what comes next.

Still Have Questions?
You don't need to have all the answers before reaching out. Many families connect for a consult call because they're unsure exactly what's contributing to their child's challenges, or even whether an assessment is the right next step.
I can help you think through what you've been noticing, what you're hoping to learn, and which type of assessment, if any, makes the most sense.

THOUGHTFUL CARE, MEANINGFUL RESULTS
A Practice Built on Trust
Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with many wonderful families. It means a great deal that much of my practice has grown through their word-of-mouth, as well as referrals from educators, physicians, and other professionals in Calgary.
“I just wanted to say thank you for all your help and guidance. The assessment report has really helped me understand and support myself, I can’t thank you enough for all your work and effort.”
“Thank you for being so kind and compassionate in all our sessions, I was initially terrified because of prior experiences but you made the assessments something to look forward to, it really felt like a safe place to express everything about myself.”
“I can’t thank you enough for everything - the time you spent with our son, the kindness you showed him, the support you gave us all. Knowing this diagnosis has resulted in so much positive change. We are grateful.”
